How to reset the “Change Water” reminder

Seeing a “Change Water” message is very common — and usually not an emergency. Most hot tubs have a built-in usage timer that triggers this reminder after 60–90 days of run time. It doesn’t always mean your water is unsafe or dirty — it just wants you to check the water quality.

This guide shows what the reminder really means, how to reset it on most hot tub brands, and when you should (and shouldn’t) ignore it.

Why hot tubs show a “Change Water” reminder

Most modern hot tubs don’t test the water — they simply use a countdown timer or usage cycle tracker. After a certain time, the alert pops up whether the water is good or not.

  • Common trigger time: 60–90 days after refill
  • It tracks usage hours, not water quality
  • Heavy use = faster reminder
If you recently had guests or a cloudy foamy tub, don’t just reset the alert — test or drain.
